SETTING UP A PC FOR USE IN A PUBLIC AREA

Boot process
Check CMOS settings:
Machine should not boot from a floppy drive.
Setup Program should be passworded.

Startup Files
AUTOEXEC.BAT should have these lines:
SET PATH=C:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\UTIL;C:\Novell\Client32
SET TEMP=C:\TEMP
SET TMP=C:\TEMP
DEL C:\TEMP\*.TMP
CONFIG.SYS should have these lines:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SETVER.EXE

Command AV
Settings:
Under Scan Hard Drives / Properties:
Action to Take = Disinfect/Query
Under Schedule
Check "Enable Scheduling"
Under Scan Frequency
Check "Daily"
Choose a time when the machine is likely to be on, but not in use.

Fortres
Verify machine can't save to C, should be a. (except a few CD-ROM Database machines).
General Settings

Printing
Test PC printing to the Copy Center printer.

Cleanup
Clear the screen. Remove unnecessary icons and line up the icons that should be there.
Run SCANDISK and DEFRAG.
Check all applications, making sure they work.
Reboot, see that machine comes up in the proper Novell environment.
Double check no CD-ROMS or diskettes left in machine.
Notify involved parties.
