2006: Teaching Creative Writing — Genre

This year teachers chose a four-session workshop centered on a single genre: poetry, bilingual poetry, fiction, or memoir.

Each workshop progressed from

  • reading a selection interpretively,
  • through reading to think about craft,
  • to writing in the chosen genre,
  • to developing teaching strategies for the classroom.

Participants were allowed time and space to read, write, think, and talk with colleagues and other writers. They enjoyed a Saturday evening reception and reading with Rudolfo Anaya and poet Evelina Zuni Lucero, and a Sunday evening open reading for participants who shared their creative expression with colleagues and friends.
