2007: Teaching Creative Writing — Genre
This year teachers chose a four-session workshop centered on a single
genre: 10-Minute Plays,
Contextual Bilingualism, fiction, or
memoir.
Each workshop progressed from
- reading a selection interpretively,
- through reading to think about craft,
- to writing in the chosen genre,
- to developing teaching strategies for the classroom.
Participants were allowed time and space to read, write, think, and talk with colleagues and other writers. They enjoyed a Saturday opening keynote speech by poet Luci Tapahonso, and a Sunday evening open reading for participants who shared their creative expression with colleagues and friends.
