The UNM Management Academy is a development program from Employee & Organizational Development
designed for current or aspiring managers at UNM.
The Management Academy is such a truly wonderful program. It can take a person from a position of wanting to be a
manager to believing they can be a manager. It can take a manager from wanting to be a better manager to being a
better manager. This program build confidence, assurance and enthusiasm needed to travel down the road of management
at UNM.
More than 200 UNM Employees have now completed the UNM Management Academy!

What Will You Learn?
As a participant, you will learn processes and techniques to enhance your managerial effectiveness. Specific
focus will be placed on building skills and providing tools that can be easily transferred to the work place.
In addition, as part of the process of navigating the program together with your classmates, you will experience
heightened awareness of self and others, establish a peer support unit, and develop team cohesiveness.
Some of the topics will include:
- Becoming a Master Manager - Identify the knowledge and skills required to be effective in various
management roles, and assess your personal strengths and challenges in each.
- Professionalism in the Workplace - Confidently present yourself in a manner that is appropriate
for various work climates and situations.
- Creating Opportunities for Success - Identify essential legal, financial and human resource
issues required for effective supervision.
- Communication Skills for Managers - Create a positive communication culture in your department.
- Customer Service: Management Issues & Strategies - Identify unique challenges of customer service
in the university environment and develop ways to improve customer service in your work area.
