Anthony C. Salem

You have reached the home page of Anthony Salem on the world wide web. This website is a place where you can find out more about me, my research and professional interests, as well as some personal info. The links on the left will take you to research I'm conducting, my curriculum vitae, and the website for the 2003 field camp in Argentina.

In general, I am interested in the evolution of the Earth's crust, and the physical, chemical, surficial, and deep-Earth processes that drive this evolution. Specifically, I am interested in the genesis and evolution of orogenic belts, as these areas provide an opportunity to study the dynamic interplay of all these processes. I enjoy doing research that allows for a lot of time spent in the field.

I am currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico. My advisor is Karl Karlstrom. For my Ph.D. dissertation, I am studying Mesozoic tectonics of the Maria Fold and Thrust Belt and McCoy Basin in southeastern California. This a continuation and expansion of work I did for my MS thesis with Steve Reynolds in the Department of Geological Sciences at Arizona State University. For my MS thesis, I studied Paleozoic rocks of the Big Maria syncline, named for the Big Maria Mountains.

As and undergraduate and graduate student, I have had the opportunity to teach several courses, and have had the chance to teach students at a variety of levels. I would like to continue on in the academic world, either at a university or a college, as I love teaching and learning.
