Dr. Arup K. Maji holds a B.Tech(Honors) in Civil Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, India. He obtained his MS in Civil Engineering from University of Miami (1984) and a PhD in Structural Engineering from Northwestern University in 1988. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer in New Mexico, PE Registration # 12182.  

Current Interests:

  • Precision composite structures for spacecraft components and space based imaging.

  • Experimental study of debris transport phenomena in nuclear power plants

  • Smart systems for structural monitoring

  • Application of fiber reinforced plastics for reinforcement and blast
    mitigation.

Other Interests:

  • Nondestructive evaluation of civil and aerospace structures and materials.

  • Smart and adaptive structures.

  • Experimental characterization of cement based composites, cellular materials (foams and honeycombs) and quasi-brittle materials.

  • Mechanics and processing of carbon/epoxy composite space structures.

  • Analysis of test data using fracture and damage mechanics, elastodynamics and finite element methods.
