Pre-Pharmacy Curriculum


The Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) program consists of a 2-4 professional plan. The first two years of pre-pharmacy courses may be completed at the University of New Mexico or at any two or four year college.

Equivalent courses taken at these school will transfer as part of the pre-pharmacy program. Verify equivalencies with the UNM College of Pharmacy advisement office.

Admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program will require completion of all pre-pharmacy courses, an appropriate grade point average, a letter stating goals for the practice of pharmacy, and three (3) letters of recommendation. Once admitted to the Doctor of Pharmacy program, the student will have four years of professional study.

*Students are only required to have completed 6 hours of non-professional electives during the time that theyare applying. A Minimum of 20 hours in non-professional electives to be taken as part of graduation requirements from at least four of six categories.No more than nine hours in any one category will count towards degree.
  Communication: English writing, speech communications, linguistics or journalism. ( English 100, 101 or 102 are not acceptable).
 
  Humanities: Literature (including American English, Foreign and comparative literature) history, or religion, philosophy.
 
  Social/Behavioral Sciences: Anthropology, psychology, economics, human geography, political science or ience, sociology (the basic skills social science 100 course and economics 201 are not acceptable.
 
  Foreign Languages:
  Fine Arts: Selected courses in the history appreciation and criticism of art, music, theatre and dance
  Health Promotion: First aid, nutrition, health and physical education (No one hour P.E. Course)
