DR. TOMÁS MARTÍNEZ
SALDAÑA
Dr. TOMÁS MARTÍNEZ SALDAÑA is a Mexican
scholar born
in Northen Mexico in Gomez Palacio Durango, full professor at
Rural Development
Studies Center, Socioeconomic and Statistics Institute,
Colegio de
Postgraduados in Chapingo Mexico. He is a member of National
Research System
and Mexican Academy of Sciences. He graduated in Anthropology
at the Universidad
Iberoamerica in 1975, and he got his Master's degree in
Rural Anthropology
from a joint program at UIA and the University of Texas at
Austin in 1977.
He received his Ph.D. from UIA and from the
Faculty of Economics
and Social Studies at the University of Manchester U.K in
1983, and in 1986
he spent a Postdoctoral Program under the supervision of
professor
Teodor Shanin. In 1995 he was a visiting research fellow
at the Department
of Social Studies in the University of Bath Spa Avon U.K. as
British Council
scholar under the supervision of professor Norman. He won the
P Smith Award
in 2000 at Austin Texas and a Mexico North Award in 2002
at the University
of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
He has been a Trade Union Extensionist and rural Technician,
National
and international consultant at the Ministry of Agriculture
México.at
CISINAH- SEP Mexico, State Government of Tlaxcala , the World
Bank and
FAO. From his teaching and research experience account
