APPROVED TECHNICAL ELECTIVES FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING »
Civil Engineering students must take two design technical electives from the six listed below. Note that at least one of these design electives must be completed prior to registering for CE 499L; the second can be taken concurrently with CE 499L. Please note: the scheduling of these courses from year to year is subject to change.
- CE 411 Reinforced Concrete Design (alternate years-was offered 2007)
- CE 424 Structural Design in Metals (alternate years-will be offered 2008)
- CE 436 Biological Wastewater Treatment (Fall)
- CE 440 Design of Hydraulic Systems (Spring)
- CE 462 Foundation Engineering (Fall)
- CE 482 Highway and Traffic Engineering (Spring)
The “non-design” technical elective in the senior year must be chosen from among the following:
- Civil Engineering:
Any non-required course 400-494, including a third course from the list of design technical electives above.
- Computer Science 251L, 375
- Mechanical Engineering 356, 456
- Chemistry 212, 253L, 301/303L
- Earth & Planetary Science 301, 333, 427, 462
- Geography 281L, 365
- Mathematics & Statistics 311, 312, 313, 314, 375, 461
- Physics 262
Students who believe that an alternate technical course in these or other departments would better support their professional objectives may submit a written petition to the Department Chairman in support of their request for an exemption. Such petitions must be submitted prior to taking the course.
