  • "One-Stop Health Service" for UNM Students

Keeping students healthy and in class is the primary goal of the UNM Student Health Center (SHC). UNM offers convenient, comprehensive, and quality health care to all currently enrolled students.
Services for Students: SHC offers the following services: primary medical care, walk-in clinic, pharmacy, women's and men's health, allergy and immunization, medical specialty clinics, physical therapy, lab and X-ray, travel health clinic, Counseling and Therapy Services (CATS), health education and prevention, and a student health advisory council.
Cost: There is no charge to see a primary medical provider for students enrolled for 6 or more hours. Students enrolled for less than 6 hours can use the SHC for a smaller user fee. Fees are charged for visits with specialists, physical therapy, pharmacy, some health education programs, and for certain procedures (e.g., X-rays, lab tests, and injections). Charges are less than (or comparable to) community rates.
    Insurance:
    • Students are not required to have health insurance to be seen at the SHC. However, SHC recommends that all students have insurance to help defray the costs of health care. SHC accepts most insurance plans. An optional, supplemental health and accident insurance policy is available to students enrolled for 6 or more hours per semester. There is an enrolment deadline at the beginning of each semester.
    • Graduate Student Employee: You are eligible for health insurance coverage (under Claredon Insurance) if you:
      • Hold a Teaching (TA), Graduate (GA), Research (RA) or Project (PA) Assistantship, AND
      • Are taking six or more graduate credit hours throughout the semester, AND
      • Work .25FTE or more (Alone or in a combination of the above) throughout the contract period, and meeting all other eligibility criteria to hold the assistantship.

Health Services for UNM Staff & Faculty: All staff and faculty can use the SHC pharmacy, travel health clinic, and Wellness Center massage therapy.
Location & Hours: The SHC is located on the main campus just north of Johnson Center and across the mall from the Student Union Building. The Student Health Center is open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. (The center is closed from 8 to 9 am on Tuesdays.)
Phone: For information or to schedule an appointment, call 277-3136.
