Education :

Ph.D. Metallurgy (1985) M.I.T., Cambridge, MA
M.Sc. Metallurgy (1980) M.I.T., Cambridge, MA
B.S. Engineering Physics (1978) Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO

Research Interests :

Research has focused on unraveling the corrosion mechanisms and designing corrosion resistant alloys and coatings. Investigations into the metal/environment interface require the routine use of electrochemistry, photoelectrochemistry, electron microscopy, and glancing angle x-ray diffraction. Results have determined the optimum oxides to block corrosion, and also the process to build pore-free self-assembled monolayers to prevent corrosion.
