The New Mexico NSF EPSCoR Nanoscience Initiative
Mission Statement — The mission of the Nanoscience Initiative
is to develop an infrastructure to foster statewide collaboration and cooperation
in materials science and engineering at the nanoscale.
Goal — The goal is to strategically position New Mexico universities to become major players in the National Nanotechnology Initiative.
Outcome — The expected outcome is to establish a statewide technical knowledge base and research facilities to attract new, high tech companies to locate in or relocate to New Mexico. This, in turn, will make major contributions to the State’s economic health and viability.

Nanoresearch Faculty Development Including
Hiring New Faculty.
• Develop a
Statewide Distributed Nanomaterials Characterization Network.
• Acquire or Develop New Nanomaterials Characterization Facilities.
• Establish a Comprehensive Nanoscience Web Site.
• Promote Collaboration Between University and National Laboratory Researchers.
• Develop
Nanoscience and Nanomaterials Courses and Curricula.
• Create an Effective Community Education Outreach Program for K-12 Teachers.
