Latin 303 Fall 2007

Projects and Interests:
Specialties include the ancient novel, Latin Literature especially satire, ancient drama, and later Latin, including Erasmus.

My most recent book was “Satiric Advice on Women and Marriage from Plautus to Chaucer” ( University of Michigan Press, 2005).

In fall 2006 I was a fellow at the Hardt Foundation in Geneva, Switzerland, doing research in Classics. In May 2007 I presented a paper, “Eumolpus the Poet,” at the International Conference on the Ancient Novel at the University of Crete in Heraklion.

I have a forthcoming book from the University of Leuven Humanistic Series (Belgium) entitled “Ludus Chartarum Triumphus and Pastor Bonus,” which consists of editions and translations of two works by the 16 th century Spanish humanist, Juan Maldonado(collaborator: Clark Colahan). I have completed the draft of the book I began in Geneva, “The World of the Roman Novel: Petronius and Apuleius,” being considered by Michigan.

Once a week I teach a Bible class at the Central New Mexico Correctional facility in Los Lunas, and am active in ministry at St. Martin’s Hospitality Center. My wife and I are also actively involved in fundraising and ministry in Manila, Philippines and Mombasa, Kenya, where we support several seminarians and do fundraising for a hospital.

Anne Marie and I live in Bosque Farms with two cats and two blue healers.
