Fraternity Recruitment Aug. 22-29 '08

One thing that stands out as something the UNM fraternity and sorority community does very well, is raising money and giving time to those less fortunate. The Greek community gives time and resources to local and national agencies, benefitting a variety of philanthropic and service-oriented endeavors. Greeks @ UNM strongly believe that you should give back to the community to which you belong.
Each fraternity and sorority has a community project that is a focus for them. However, each year the entire Greek community comes together for one cause during Greek Week. This is a time when Greeks donate time and funds to an Albuquerque agency. Fraternity and sorority members help the Albuquerque community while uniting the Greek community at the same time.
"Organizing community service projects has given myself and others the opportunity to get in touch with ourselves and our community. It has taught me important skills such as organization, networking, and leadership. Giving back as often as I can during my time at the university makes the experience more rewarding everyday."

Thomas Schawel, Senior
Executive Director, ASUNM Community Experience
Sigma Phi Epsilon

UNM Greeks raised over $10,000 for Cuidando Los Ninos during Greek Week 2004. In addition, Greeks did more than 9,000 hours of community service last year.
