If you or someone you know is interested and able to work with Help America Recount, we are looking into the possibility of having them hire one of our members in New Mexico, to help out with this effort. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please have them get in touch with either Lynne (Serpe) or me.  And, my apologies for leaving out the critical part: this would involve 20 - 40 hours a week, at about $15 - $18 an hour, starting pretty much almost immediately thru Dec 17 at the latest. Thank you!

2004.10.26 Greenpeace Training for Student Activists--Full Semester (pdf)

Dear friend,

I saw your group on the Campus Greens website and I am writing to personally
invite you to apply to the Greenpeace Organizing Term - a Semester-long
training program for students who have the drive and passion and want the
training to be one of the country's best environmental activists.

If you can't participate please pass this message along to others who might
be interested in this program!

No matter who wins the upcoming election, there has never been a more
important time to continue to stave off unprecedented attacks on our
environment or to take the offensive to pass strong new laws, hold
corporations accountable, and undo the damage that has been done over the
last four years.

This Spring, Greenpeace will train ten students. You will play a crucial
role on a critical Greenpeace campaign, receive training from the nations
best and most experienced campaigners and travel to Europe for a week to be
trained by international environmental leaders and meet students working on
similar issues around the world.

Why? Because Greenpeace knows that students have played an integral role in
every major social movement in recent history and that we cannot win the
fight for a green and peaceful world without working with and training the
next generation of environmental leaders.

We are looking for the best college students - primarily freshmen or
sophomores - who are passionate, bold, smart, visionary, strategic, savvy,
and ready to join us in the trenches.

You can learn more about this program at www.greenpeaceusa.org/goa/  Better
yet, give me a call (202) 319-2401 or email me at

Phil

2004.09.11 UNM College Credit

Dear College Greens,

If any of you who are working in campaigns are interested in receiving
academic credit for your efforts, please stop by and speak with me about
the possibility of signing up for an academic internship.  This is open to
ALL majors (not just poli sci).  Students can earn 1 academic credit for
every 64 hours worked in the field (i.e., for 3 credits you need to work
192 hours) by registering for Political Science 291 or Political Science
491.  In addition to the volunteer work, students must turn in a paper (10
page paper for 291; 20 page paper for 491) analyzing the experience and
relating it to broader academic/scholarly themes.  I work with students to
make sure the paper format is flexible and is designed to meet the
student's particular goals/interests.  I will need a description of your
internship responsibilities, a copy of your schedule including start/end
dates, and a letter from your supervisor confirming that you met the
required hours and performed in a satisfactory manner.

If you want more details, please see me during my office hours--Wed.
10:15-2 or Thurs 11-2--and we'll discuss details.  Please tell other
students about this opportunity.  The Department of Political Science
regards this internship opportunity as an excellent means for you to
connect your civic involvement with your scholarly/academic life.  I think
it would be wonderful for you to get academic credit for the good work you
are doing.

My office is 2076 in the Political Science Department if you wish to meet
with me.  I can sign a pink card to register you still for this semester,
or we can talk about internship possibilities for later semesters.

Best regards,

Prof. Ellen Grigsby

Hi UNM Greens,

I'm writing to let you know that the attached credit-approved Internship annoucements for work with a Green campaign are posted with the UNM Political Science Department.

The Interns will help me in all aspects of planning a campaign for a proposed run for US Senate as a Green in 2008 (Pete Domenici's seat). My intent is to start early, put together a well-funded statewide grassroots-focused effort, and run to win. I've got some creative ideas and already done a ton of work toward this end. But, obviously, nobody runs or wins alone. I'll need your help.

I'd appreciate it if you'd make a brief annoucement about these credit-approved Internships at your meetings, post the annoucements in dorms, and/or include a brief articles about them in your publications. Thanks for helping me get the word around.

Please let me know if you'd like more info about me or the campaign plan.
