The High Desert Linguistics Society, the linguistics graduate student organization at University of New Mexico,is sponsoring its 5th annual conference entitled "HDLS-V - Culture, Language, and Cognition," November 1-3, 2002 on the UNM campus. This is an international conference featuring the work of graduate students and professional linguists, as well as people from other fields, who present papers on a wide variety of topics in theoretical and applied linguistics. We believe this is an excellent opportunity for linguistics majors and undergraduates from other fields to get a sense of the sorts of intellectual activities a professional scholar is involved in.
We would like to invite interested undergraduates to apply for a conference fee waiver as part of our effort to involve more undergraduates in linguistics-oriented activities and as part of our effort to recruit new linguistics majors.
To apply for this scholarship, please write a short letter
stating why you are interested in attending the conference, what your major
is, and how you heard about the conference. You can drop the letter off
at the main office in the Department of Linguistics, located in Humanities
526 (5th floor, west wing). Or you can email it to hdls@unm.edu.
