Coaching for Employee Sucess

 

 


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Performance coaching is an important role of managers and supervisors. Coaching provides continuous help to employees for the purpose of increasing their job effectiveness. It involves helping employees reach their performance goals, correcting performance and behavioral deficiencies, and positively reinforcing appropriate behavior.

Why is this important? Because good coaching:

  • Increases productivity, quality and effectiveness of the work group
  • Makes your job as manager easier when employees build their skills and independence
  • Builds relationships with employees and strengthens their commitment and loyalty
  • Enhances employees’ motivation and initiative
  • Encourages employees to stretch so they perform at their best
  • Promotes creativity and innovation
  • Reminds employees of the importance of accountability
  • Drives performance to levels needed by the group and the organization.

Participants will learn the art of balancing their employees’ personal needs with the practical needs of the organization, thus achieving a workplace characterized by a strong commitment to success. To strengthen their skills, participants will practice simulated coaching sessions.

PROGRAM LENGTH

7 Hours

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will be able to:

  • Conduct discussions with employees that address performance and behavioral problems and establish an action plan for improvement
  • Identify appropriate situations and opportunities for conducting performance coaching sessions
  • Identify when to use progressive discipline (Performance Management policy) for performance/behavior problems
  • Use selected interaction skills to strengthen relationships with employees

All UNM managers and supervisors
  
PRE-REQUISITES

None (The Performance Review Overview Online Training is recommended, but not required.)

TEACHING METHODS

Lecture, small group skill practices and activities, video scenarios, individual exercises to practice targeted skills.
