Building Bridges Across Generations
(2 Part Course)

 

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This class will explore historical perspectives about work values and related behavior as well as identify present and future implications. Four generations will be discussed: "GI" (born between 1901-1924), "Silent" (born between 1925-1942), "Boomer" born between 1943-1960), and "13er" or "Generation X" (born between 1961-1981). Particular characteristics for each generation will be examined and the following questions will be dicussed:

1) Who are the people in this generation?
2) What events shaped or are shaping them?
3) What are they like, especially at work?
4) What are or were their lives like?

PROGRAM LENGTH

Two Days - 2 hour sessions each day

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify major themes and events that shaped their own generation, especially with regard to work attitudes and behaviors.

  • Recognize the similarities and differences between generations and how they impact work; learn to acknowledge or accept the differences rather than label them right or wrong;

  • Use techniques that may enhance communication across generations at work.

Lecture, discussion, and practical exercises with "take back to the office" applications
