AwardAwards

Each year, STAIF hosts a banquet at which—in addition to a keynote speech —the four awards listed below are normally presented. Though all awards may be given annually, individual award committees have the option of not presenting an award during any given year. STAIF-2007's new awards banquet will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the Hotel Albuquerque in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Outstanding
Paper Award

The Space Nuclear Power and Propulsion Outstanding Paper Award was established in 1992 by The University of New Mexico’s Institute for Space and Nuclear Power Studies (ISNPS) to recognize outstanding technical contributions to the field in each of STAIF's hosted conferences and symposia. Awards for outstanding papers from STAIF-2007, will be presented at STAIF-2008. More >>

Schreiber Spence
Achievement Award

This special achievement award honors Raemer E. Schreiber and Roderick W. Spence for their pioneering and technical contributions to concepts and designs for nuclear propulsion in space during their tenure at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Milton Klein is the most recent recipient, recognized for his contributions to the development of space nuclear thermal rocket propulsion systems. More >>

Manuel Lujan, Jr.
Student Paper Award

First established in 1987, the Manuel Lujan is awarded annually during STAIF (when applicable), to the best student paper from the previous year's conference. All recipients must have presented their paper at the conference, published it in the proceedings, be the lead author, and contributed the majority of the research involved. More >>

General Ernest C. Hardin Scholarship Award

Created twenty years ago to recognize and empower outstanding graduate and undergraduate students majoring in nuclear engineering at the University of New Mexico, this scholarship award offers $500 per year ($2000 maximum) to its undergraduate recipients, and $14,000 - $16,000 per year, plus tuition wavers to its graduate recipients.
