Dr. Rounds, a fourth generation constructor received BS degree in
Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado , pursued Master’s
work at the National University of Mexico in Mexico City and
completed his Ph. D. in Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee
in Scotland.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rounds has maintained a balance of industry and
academic experiences. He spent two years in structural design, a year in
field engineering and another five years in project management for commercial
building construction before beginning his academic career. During that
time, he became registered as a Professional Engineer in Colorado
and Iowa and certified in Denver as a Class "A" (unrestricted)
General Building Construction Superintendent. Until accepting the Endowed
Chair at the University of New Mexico, Dr. Rounds ran Rounds & Associates,
a company that provided education, development and training services to
the construction industry.
Dr. Rounds research interests lie in the areas of Project Management and
Project Supervision, with strong emphasis on production management and improvement.
He is working to develop a better understanding of the unique roles played
in the construction process by Civil Engineers, Construction Engineers and
Construction Managers. Dr. Rounds’ goals for the construction programs
at the University of New Mexico are to build a world class educational experience
integrating Construction Engineering and Construction Management with traditional
Civil Engineering, integrating construction research into instructional
programs, and delivering construction education on demand any time and any
place in the world.
