ART ED 430/530   Studio Art in the Schools: Printmaking

Course Description:   This course explores the teaching of printmaking at both the elementary and secondary levels through the study of relief printmaking (stamping, linocuts, styrofoam cuts, collagraphs), intaglio (wax plates, Mylar plates, solar plates), and monotypes.  Students will also explore various ways to teach printmaking and ways to conduct a studio critique at the secondary level.

Methods of Instruction:  PowerPoint presenations, class discussions, studio work, using reflective exercises for studio critiques, and rubric assessment. 

Assignments: 
Completion of eight different printmaking techniques - 80 points
Completion of eight reflective papers on each studio project - 40 points
Participation in studio critiques
(Graduate students will also complete one combination print using three separate techniques and will be expected to write and conduct a reflective exercise for the class) - 40 points
