A one-day seminar in teaching Medieval and Islamic cultures

in the Secondary schools led by:

Dr. Adnan Husain
Department of Middle Eastern Studies, New York University
Dr. Husain is a comparative and cultural historian of the Middle East and Europe during the Middle Ages. His focus is on cross-cultural contact and encounters between Muslims, Christians and Jews, as well as comparative religious movements, especially mysticism and apocalyptic or messianic traditions. He is currently working on a book entitled, Inter-confessional Encounters: Self and History in Late Medieval Religious Identities.

Dr. Anita Obermeier
Department of English, University of New Mexico
Author of The History and Anatomy of Auctorial Self-Criticism in the European Middle Ages and of numerous articles on Chaucer and medieval poetry, Dr. Obermeier teaches the range of medieval literature from Beowulf to medieval drama to Chaucer.

Dr. Cynthia Robinson
Department of Art and Art History, University of New Mexico
As a member of both the Middle Eastern Studies Association and the Historians of Islamic Art, Dr. Robinson has published and lectured widely on Islamic art and literature. She has prepared an electronic text for secondary school teachers entitled The Visual Culture of al-Andalus.
