The Maxwell Museums Laboratory of Human Osteology specializes
in numerous facets of physical anthropology. The laboratory serves
as a repository of human remains, which includes prehistoric, documented
and forensic remains.
The Laboratory of Human Osteology participates in forensic work
through our close working relationship with the State of New Mexicos
Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI).
Currently we house a documented osteological collection
of over 230 modern individuals of various backgrounds. The laboratory
works with the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)
in the relocation of the prehistoric remains to their rightful descendants.
