The Integrated Pest Management program supports structural and landscape pest management. IPM is a part of Grounds and Landscaping. The IPM program is designed to set management objectives for each site, to inspect and monitor pest populations on a regular basis, to set action thresholds for each pest, to apply IPM strategies for control, to evaluate results, and to keep written records. The growing concern regarding deer mice and Hantavirus has resulted in additional work for the IPM group. SHEA and PPD work together closely in this effort. Areas that require cleanup due to the presence of deer mice are normally cleaned by a local service provider. Main Campus Custodial personnel have also been trained to perform this work, and are utilized when appropriate. The West Nile Virus has added yet another pest concern, with PPD personnel monitoring any standing water that may breed mosquitoes. |
