The Grounds and Landscaping Section is responsible for maintaining the campus grounds and landscape, removing refuse, providing pest control services, and operating heavy equipment. Grounds and Landscaping personnel are responsible for campus arboriculture and landscape activities including turf maintenance, irrigation, refuse removal, and light-and-heavy equipment operations. They are also primarily responsible for the removal of snow and ice. In addition to ensuring the health and beauty of the campus, Grounds and Landscaping personnel are responsible for cleaning the campus waterscapes and keeping the campus free from litter and debris. Grounds and Landscaping is challenged with the task of maintaining a campus that is in constant use by students, faculty, and staff, as well as the Albuquerque community, which views the campus as one of its premier parks. In addition to daily maintenance, this section continuously addresses disruption to the landscape by numerous construction and remodeling projects.
The Grounds and Landscaping Section continues to identify areas of turfgrass that cannot be managed to acceptable levels due to site locations and environmental conditions. These areas require a high level of maintenance resources. We will continue to replace such areas with low-maintenance, water-conserving plants, which will significantly increase the aesthetic value of the campus while eliminating water runoff and weed problems. The Grounds and Landscaping section locates and maps all irrigation valves, controllers and delivery systems to be incorporated into the master utility maps. The arboriculture program continues to be a success. The Integrated Pest Management program is widely recognized and is a busy service of the PPD Environmental Services Division. If you observe campus activities, which are damaging to the landscape, please notify the Grounds and Landscaping manager at 277-0615 |
