Special Activities is responsible for supporting all special events and moving activities. In addition, Special Activities has become an important member in the planning of many major campus events by working closely with other campus constituents such as the Office of the President, Student Activities, the Development Office, Johnson Center, Athletics, Strategic Communication and Marketing, and Safety, Health, and Environmental Affairs (SHEA). This Section coordinates Physical Plant support for various events on campus. To name a few, the New Mexico Regional Science Fair, UNM Commencement, High School Graduations, Building Dedications, and Athletic Department events.

Special Activities has also taken the lead role in the PPD uniform project, which coordinates the distribution and acquisition of uniforms for the entire Physical Plant department staff.

Special Activities publishes a monthly and weekly Highlights Calendar that is used by the Physical Plant and the campus community to alert users of upcoming events.

Special Activities / Movers: 277-7246 / FAX 277-1250

Special Activities is responsible for on-campus moves. The Movers may require a minimum of one week advance notice. Physical Plant movers do not pack items to be moved, but they will provide departments with collapsed packing boxes. Prior to the receipt of boxes, departments will be required to submit a purchase requisition to pay for moving boxes not returned to the Movers. For further information, a detailed list of guidelines can be faxed at your request.

With the exception of refrigerators and freezers, the movers will not handle the disposal of property. For surplus items, call UNM Surplus Property at 277-2923. For special trash pick up of items to be disposed, call the Grounds Section at 277-1324.

Refrigerator/Freezer Disposal:
PPD Movers will pick up refrigerators/freezers under the following conditions:

• Refrigerators/freezers must be cleaned out and wiped down.
• Refrigerators/freezers from lab areas, or which previously held specimens, must be cleared through the SHEA office. The number to call is 277-2753.
• The department will fill out a Surplus Property Form. For a hardcopy of the form go to www.unm.edu/~univserv/req2surplus.pdf.
• Fax a copy of the from to Surplus Property at 277-1130. Tape the form to the front of the refrigerator.
• Call the Movers at 277-7246 to schedule a pick up only after all of the above steps have been completed.
