Photo of Lawrence CarreonLawrence Carreon received his Physician Assistant training with a Master’s of Science degree at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, Colorado. He received advanced training in emergency medicine through the Physician Assistant Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the University of Southern California/Los Angeles County Health Sciences Center. In addition, he completed a Master’s degree in Counseling/Educational Psychology from New Mexico State University following his 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.

He has a variety of interests including travel, international and tropical medicine, and, in particular, the area of emerging infectious diseases. Lawrence works closely with the UNM SHAC Travel Clinic. He has traveled extensively throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific Islands.

He has provided volunteer services in Mexico and is a medical advisor to Horizon Adventures, an outdoor education/wilderness program for adolescents based in Denver, Colorado.

Lawrence received an award for International Excellence from the Office of International Programs and Studies and the International Education Advisory Committee on April 25, 2001. He received this award for his extensive work in travel medicine and his medical assistance in other countries.
