Mission

Sigma Tau Delta has a threefold mission:

1 To confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies.
2 To promote interest in literature and the English language on campus and in the community.
3 To foster the discipline of English in all its aspects, including creative and critical writing.


Members of Sigma Tau Delta are expected to serve loyally and unselfishly in their pursuit of the motto: Sincerity, Truth, Design. Sigma Tau Delta encourages literary pursuits that will provide members with enjoyment and enlightenment.

It is the second largest honor society in the nation, offering a myriad of benefits to its members, including lifetime membership, scholarship opportunities, publishing opportunities, fellowship with other English students, community service, and the opportunity to attend national and international English conferences.
