The M.A. thesis degree requires 24 hours of coursework, 6 hours of thesis work, and a written thesis. Typically students take the required coursework during their first year and write their thesis during their second year.
The M.A. professional paper degree requires 26 hours of coursework, 6 hours of professional paper credit, and a written professional paper. Typically students take the required coursework during their first year and write their professional during their second year.
The Ph.D. program requires successful completion of an M.A. degree, 18 hours of coursework beyond the M.A., successful completion of a comprehensive examination (written and oral), and a Ph.D. dissertation. Typically the Ph.D. degree requires two or three years beyond the M.A.
