From Albuquerque to Taos
One hundred years ago, the journey from Albuquerque to Taos took four days on horseback. Today you’ll spend about two and a half hours in transit. You’ll find standard car rental companies at the Albuquerque Sunport.
Dollar Rental Car will offer Conference participants a 15% discount if they call the Albuquerque office direct at 800.369.4226 and identify themselves as attendees of Taos Writers' Conference. Participants will receive the discount off the current rates being quoted at the time of their reservation.

There are also daily shuttle buses from the Albuquerque Sunport, if you would prefer someone else to do the driving. Twin Hearts Express (800-654-9456) offers four shuttles a day. Rates are $45 for a one-way or $80 for a round-trip ticket. Faust’s Transportation (888-830-3410) offers private shuttles which can meet you at any time. Rates are $250 for a one-way trip for one to four people; please call at least forty-eight hours in advance to book a private shuttle.

Please note: at present, there are no airline flights to Taos.

Accommodations
We ask Conference participants to make their own arrangements for accommodations in Taos, and we’ve arranged special nightly room rates at the Sagebrush Inn ($69-109) 800-428-3626, sagebrush@newmex.com; the Comfort Suites ($89) 888-751-1555, comfort@newmex.com; and the Quality Inn ($69) 800-845-0648, quality@newmex.com. Rates for all include breakfast. Be sure to mention you are with the Taos Summer Writers’ Conference when you make your reservations in order to receive the Conference room rate.
The historic Sagebrush Inn has rooms with true Southwestern charm. Rooms do not have internet access, though participants will be able to use the wireless connection at the Conference Center for a $10 weekly fee. The adjacent Comfort Suites has internet access in all its rooms as well as a wireless connection in the lobby. The Quality Inn, just a short drive from the Sagebrush Inn, also offers internet access in all its rooms.
Conference rates at the Sagebrush Inn, Comfort Suites and Quality Inn apply to the period July 11 (after 1 p.m.) through July 21, 2008, and are guaranteed for reservations made by June 11, 2008. Reservations made after July 11 will be made on a space available basis. Conference rates may be available during the two nights before or after the conference, depending on availability. A reminder: July is high season in Taos, a very popular tourist destination, so make your reservations as soon as possible.
