Teaching A Basic Course
This is an
one credit graduate course offered twice during the Fall semester and once
each the Spring semester.

are covered over six weeks:

Students can enroll
through the I-TEL UNM system. Each semester, brochures are delivered to
TA mailboxes describing the program and how to register.
Registration and Grading
For the Spring
2003, the class is listed as C&J 583.370, Call No. 18264. Registration
must be done on I-TEL. Once class has started, students must go to
the Registrar's office in person to enroll.
All graduate
students with a Teaching Assistant or Associates contract will receive
a full tuition waiver for this class.
Grading is
based on participation in the workshop, a teaching observation, and a teaching
videotape. A CR/NR grading option is also available.
Time
The time of
each workshop is 2 - 4 p.m. on Friday.
Location
The classes
are typically held in the Communication and Journalism Building (southwest
corner of Yale and Redondo Drive). Enter the building at the west end.

Topic Workshops
Special Topic
Workshops are offered to TAs in the UNM community during the Spring semester.
Generally, four special workshops are held during the end of the Spring
semester. In addition to Teaching Assistants, the workshops
are open to all faculty and graduate students.

International
Teaching Assistant Program
This program
was established in 1984. Training has three emphases: Teaching skills,
language skills, cultural issues in the classroom. This class is
offered once during both the Spring and Fall semesters. The class
meets for 8 weeks and covers topics including:

* US Students and Academic Values
* Specific Teaching Methods
* Conflict Management
* Teaching and Image Style
* Planning Effective Classes
* Teaching Demonstrations
* Undergraduate Teaching Panel
ITARC Registration
and Grading
