Our Mission
Women Studies is an interdisciplinary program that strives to provide equal education for both women and men by making the study of the history and culture of women, as well as the social structures of gender, the central focus of concentrated scholarship and learning.  The program incorporates insights from the study of history, literature, and the social sciences as well as law, education, the humanities, and fine arts.  The program supports the development and application of new theories of feminist studies throughout the university and works to create an atmosphere in which women and their achievements can continue to take place and receive serious attention.

The Women Studies Program upholds the highest levels of academic excellence and integrity and supports its faculty's efforts to establish and maintain rigorous scholastic standards.

Why Women Studies?
The interdisciplinary nature of the Women Studies Program requires students to use knowledge about women and gender from several areas to create more coherent and developed ideas about the position of women throughout and across societies.  Such an education prepares students for life as citizens, workers, and family members by teaching critical thinking and encouraging students to think in new and creative ways.  Women Studies majors go into every field, just as graduates of other liberal arts specialties do.  As a liberal arts degree, Women Studies is not a vocational training program but a preparation for adult life.
What can I do with a degree in Women Studies?

Programs
The Women Studies Program offers both a major (36 credit hours) and a minor (21 credit hours).  A student can also pursue Women Studies as a second major (27 credit hours).  In addition, certain Women Studies courses can be applied toward the group requirements of the College of Arts & Sciences.  All Women Studies courses are acceptable for elective credit in all colleges.
