Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDST) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University seeks to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in Women's Studies (contingent upon administrative approval). We seek applicants with expertise in gender and race/ethnicity.

Areas of specialization and disciplinary background are otherwise open. The Women's Studies Program includes six faculty lines located wholly or in part in IDST, plus some forty faculty affiliates from across the university. We offer a graduate certificate and an undergraduate minor, with an M.A. and undergraduate major in active development. Responsibilities include teaching in Women's Studies and one other departmental program (Appalachian Studies, Humanities, Religious Studies, or core interdisciplinary courses), as well as maintaining an active research agenda. Normal teaching load is two courses per semester. Ph.D. or evidence of completion by August 2008 is required, with experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching preferred.

Wheaton College

The Women's Studies Program at Wheaton College ( Norton , MA ) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor with expertise in transnational feminisms. This position requires a PhD in a relevant field with significant training in women's and/or gender studies (for example, a MA, PhD, minor or graduate certificate). We are particularly interested in candidates whose host department would be Economics, Philosophy, or Psychology. The annual teaching load is 3/2, and consists of a combination of courses in Women's Studies, the host department, and general education. The candidate must be able to teach the introduction to women's studies and feminist theory, and will have the opportunity to
develop a core course that will focus on transnational feminist issues. California State University, Fullerton

The Women's Studies program at California State University , Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Women's Studies.

Position: The area of emphasis is open. Areas of special interest include religion and geopolitical feminism, feminist visual culture, or women's health and the environment. We are looking for a colleague to complement a small but growing program of two humanists and two social scientists.

The main responsibilities of this position are to develop and teach introductory and core Women's Studies courses. Department faculty also have opportunities to develop courses in their areas of specialization. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the program, advise students, serve on academic committees, and participate in the broader disciplinary community, as well as engage in an active research agenda.

The Women and Gender Studies Program (WGST) at the University of Colorado at Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the field of global/transnational gender studies.

The Women’s Studies Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with major scholarly expertise in global/transnational feminisms and African studies, and strong interests in human rights and/or sexuality studies. Women’s Studies and Feminist Research/Law

The University of Western Ontario invites applications for the Daryl T. Bean Professorship in Law and Women’s Studies. The Women's Studies Program at Indiana University South Bend invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in women's studies, beginning Fall 2008. IUSB is the third largest of the eight campuses that comprise Indiana University ; we provide undergraduate and master's level programs to some 7,000 students. The University of Texas at El Paso

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology (higher ranks considered) with a specialization in gender beginning Fall 2008. Applicants whose research interests also include health, demography, environment, crime, Latina/o, or U.S.-Mexico border populations are especially encouraged to apply. The candidate should have a primary interest in gender and the media; broadcast, print, and/or new media would all be acceptable focuses. Particularly desirable would be a focus on gender in any of the following areas: television news, the Internet, international media studies, ethnic media studies, media and sexuality, history of the press. The candidate must be prepared to teach on a regular basis Introduction to Women's Studies and introductory and/or writing, editing, and design courses offered through Journalism Studies. Job Opening Assistant Prof. Women's Studies - California State University Fullerton

The Women's Studies program at California State University , Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Women's Studies.

Position: The area of emphasis is open. Areas of special interest include religion and geopolitical feminism, feminist visual culture, or women's health and the environment. We are looking for a colleague to complement a small but growing program of two humanists and two social scientists. The main responsibilities of this position are to develop and teach
introductory and core Women's Studies courses. Department faculty also have opportunities to develop courses in their areas of specialization. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the program, advise students, serve on academic committees, and participate in the broader disciplinary community, as well as engage in an active research agenda. Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching as well as research, peer-reviewed publication, and service at the department, College, and University level.

Position Announcement

The University of Kansas seeks to appoint a tenure-track, assistant professor in its Women's Studies Program. Applicants should have a research agenda and teaching interests in global feminism. Academic discipline is open. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the Program's emphasis in international and global studies of gender and sexuality, and in related area studies programs in the University. Within the field of global feminism, fields of interest include but are not limited to global feminist theories, international relations, international trade and economic development, feminist visions of development, human trafficking, ethnic cleansing, immigration, terrorism, transnational feminism, the feminization of poverty, health and justice, political and ethnic conflict, human rights, comparative sexualities, comparative legal systems, peace processes, and democracy. We invite applications from advanced ABDs and recent Ph.D.s in women's studies and related fields, including untenured assistant professors. The successful candidate for the position should be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the starting date of the position. KU is prepared to assist the successful candidate in the process of gaining eligibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1). Maintain an active research program in field of candidate's area of expertise. 2). Teach four graduate and undergraduate courses per year in the Women's Studies Program. 3). Advise and supervise graduate and undergraduate students in research. 4). Provide service to the Women's Studies Program, the College, and the University, and the profession.

Required Qualifications:
1). Ph.D. or terminal degree in Women's or Gender Studies or a related discipline, including formal graduate training in women's, gender, or GLBTI studies, expected by start date of appointment. 2). Demonstrable ability to conduct a program of research and potential for obtaining external funding for research focused on gender or women or GLBTI studies in global feminism as evidenced by graduate coursework or fieldwork, and by publications and conference presentations in the field and/or manuscripts under review. 3). Demonstrable ability to teach core graduate and undergraduate courses in women's studies, including theory and methods, as evidenced by statement of teaching interests, or by a teaching portfolio or other instruments that document teaching effectiveness. At the beginning Assistant Professor level, instruction performed as a graduate teaching assistant may be used.


Preferred Qualifications:
1. Publications relevant to global feminism. 2). Research that complements the research and teaching interests of other women's studies faculty. 3). A candidate who will contribute to the climate of diversity in the College, including a diversity of scholarly approaches.

Appointment: Appointment is expected to start August 18, 2008 , and will be a full-time, tenure-track, regular appointment subject to review and reappointment.

Director, Center for the Study of Women in Society (CSWS) and Associate or Full Professor

Position: Director for the Center for the Study of Women in Society and tenured associate or full professor.  Three-year renewable appointment as CSWS Director beginning as early as September 2008.  The Director's academic appointment will be .5 FTE in CSWS and .5 FTE in an appropriate department, program, and/or college.

See (http://csws.uoregon.edu/home/intro.shtml) for full description of CSWS, a multidisciplinary research center that generates, supports, and disseminates research on women and gender.  As CSWS Director, the successful applicant will administer Center activities in these three areas and pursue an active research agenda.  The CSWS Director works closely with an interdisciplinary Executive Committee and 3-5 Center staff.  CSWS is supported by an endowment and by funds generated through grants and fundraising and has an annual operating budget of about $600,000.

To date, a list of potential academic tenure-home units includes anthropology; art history; arts and administration; counseling psychology; English, ethnic studies; geography; Germanic languages and literatures; history; journalism; law; planning, public policy, and management; political science, psychology; sociology; women's and gender studies.

Qualifications: Ph.D.; evidence of excellence in research and teaching on women and gender; familiarity with the breadth of feminist scholarship and theory; demonstrable appreciation of interdisciplinary scholarship, of interconnections among gender, race, class, ethnicity, and sexual identity, and of the internationalization of gender research.  Significant administrative experience, and/or record of securing support for academic research or programs inside or outside academia preferred.
