The Maxwell Museum Photo Archives contain over 80,000
images dating from the late 1800s to the present. The collection includes
prints, negatives, slides, films and digital images documenting anthropological research
from the Southwest, Alaska and the Northwest Coast, Mexico, Central and
South America as well as other areas worldwide.

Many of the photographs have related materials in the museum's Document
Archives. Some of the research and photographers represented in the archive
include documentation from the UNM Archaeological Field School and the
Soil Conservation Service, Ben Wittick, George Pepper, Fay Cooper-Cole,
W.W. Hill, Edgar Hewett, Charles Lummis, Frank Hibben, Josef Imhof, and John Collier, Jr.
as well as material from numerous archaeological and ethnological research
projects from UNM and other scholars.
