The UNM - CNM Gateway Program
The University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) have established a partnership to provide a gateway program for students to access the best services that both institutions have to offer. It has been designed to increase student success! This program is for first-time freshman only and the guidelines are listed below.
This new program will be available to a limited number of students every fall. The great thing about the Gateway Program is that you will be able to enjoy the advantages students have by taking classes at CNM while at the same time enjoying the benefits of being part of the UNM community.
Benefits
As a Gateway Program participant you will enjoy the many advantages of dual admission to both CNM and UNM.
- Begin your education in a supportive environment with small classes.
- Receive a Bridge Scholarship to pay tuition and fees your first semester and to be eligible for the Lottery Success Scholarship in subsequent semesters.
- Advisors will guide you step-by-step to ensure you begin at the appropriate level in classes that improve skills in reading, English, and mathematics.
- A foundation of at least 24 credit hours of core classes counting toward your degree by the time you transition completely to UNM.
- Low CNM tuition rates for these classes.
- Access to UNM facilities, services, and organizations provided on the UNM Main Campus as well as a Lobo identification card, and Lobo events.
- You may choose to live in UNM campus housing.
Program Requirements
- Have at least a 1.75 high school GPA.
- Place in no more than two (2) remedial classes (according to UNM’s course placement).
- Complete an online CNM admissions application, a FAFSA financial aid application and CNM general scholarship application.
- Participate in program activities including orientation and events during the term.
- Meet with CNM advisors at least once per term.
- Maintain continuous full-time enrollment during Fall and Spring terms, Summer optional.
- Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA (maintain 2.5 GPA for Lottery Success Scholarship eligibility).
- Complete at least 24 credit hours of specified coursework at CNM in the General Studies degree program.
- Limit participation in the program to no more than 2 academic years.
- Follow both CNM and UNM institutional codes of conduct.
- Follow all associated rules and regulations if living in UNM housing, if applicable.
