Affordability and meeting new people were some of the reasons Zoe chose UNM! Check out her story and see what advice she has for incoming students!
Why did you choose UNM?
I chose UNM for numerous reasons. The first reason was because of the scholarship opportunities that UNM offered to me. I knew that if I studied at UNM it would be possible to graduate with very little student debt. However, I also realized that UNM had a lot more to offer than just an inexpensive education. What caught my attention the most was Lobo athletics. Watching Division 1 football, basketball, and soccer seemed like so much fun. UNM had everything I was looking for in a university, a large campus, numerous organizations, Division 1 sports, and many accredited degree programs.
What activities at UNM are you involved with?
There are so many activities and organizations to become involved with at UNM. The two main organizations that I am involved with are ASUNM and Pi Beta Phi. In ASUNM I am one of 20 elected senators and also serve as the committee chair of Outreach and Appointments. My sorority, Pi Beta Phi, also keeps me very busy.
What has been your most rewarding experience at UNM?
The most rewarding experience I have had at UNM so far has been meeting new people and making new friends. College is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it has honestly been one of the most fun times of my life.
Which programs and services at UNM have you used?
At UNM I have utilized many of the programs and services. I am an avid user of CAPS for help with my homework and essays. I also go to he Student Health Center whenever I am sick or need medical attention. Johnson Center is one of my favorite areas on campus as well. These services are always ready to help and are very beneficial.
What advice do you have for other students?
The best advice I can offer to incoming freshmen is to make the best of your time at UNM. College is a time in your life where you can create your own destiny. Therefore, join organizations, make friends, and break out of your shell. However, do not lose sight of your goals within the fun times of college.
