Interdisciplinary Programs

Albuquerque Teachers' Institute
The Albuquerque Teacher's Institute contributes to the state-wide effort to improve the quality of teachers and teaching by providing high-quality, credit-bearing professional development seminars to teachers currently working in Albuquerque middle and high schools with the highest dropout and poverty rates. Seminars support teachers in acquiring the skills and knowledge needed to provide quality instruction and curriculum development in content areas including those of the Humanities, Sciences and Fine Arts, and in the literacy skills related to these content areas. The Institute is a member of the National Teachers Institute Association and a demonstration site of the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute.

Festival of Folk Theater "Los Pastores"
The Spanish and Portuguese Department, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, College of Fine Arts and El Centro de la Raza along with the Southwest Hispanic Research Institute sponsored the 3rd annual performance of "Los Pastores". The play is performed by a group of actors from three small neighboring communities near Belén during the first week of December. Performances are held throughout the state.

interP.A.C.E. (interdisciplinary Partnerships through Art, Culture and the Environment) is a higher-education arts' outreach initiative. Our mission is to revision and reposition the arts as a wholistic and re-vitalizing approach to community development. interP.A.C.E. seeks to enrich the cultural and artistic experiences of New Mexican communities by sharing UNM's College of Fine Arts faculty and student talents. In our efforts to educate and prepare the next generation of artists, we are innovating school-to-work practice that will address the demands of an ever-changing economy, and ever-shifting civic agenda and the never-ending professional challenges artists face throughout their careers. And, we are championing the arts as a means to stimulate civic dialogue toward community integrity and revitalization.
