Middle Rio Grande Regional Water Planning

The Water Resources Program has hosted each of the three assemblies held for Regional Water Planning in the Middle Rio Grande Basin. These meetings bring together stakeholders in the MRGB as they attempt to develop a regional water plan.

Water Resources Information

The Water Resources Program provides information to the general public and to governmental agencies on a variety of issues regarding water. Inquiries have dealt with drinking water quality and water testing; problems with pumps and well yields; water pollution, water rights and allocation, among others.

In February 2001, students in the Water Resources Program (WR 573) published a guidebook for East Mountain Area (EMA) homeowners. This guidebook entitled "The East Mountain Area Septic System User's Guide" is a simple, straightforward guide for EMA residents to use as a tool for understanding and complying with the Bernalillo County Wastewater Ordinance. http://www.unm.edu/~wrp/wrp-3.htm

Chicana/o Studies Program

Mexican American Studies in the High Schools - Together with area high school teachers, Chicana/o Studies has developed courses in Mexican-American Studies and Mexican-American Literature, which are taught in several Albuquerque public schools. The program also offers University courses designed specifically for teachers who intend to teach these Mexican-American Studies courses.

Recuerda a César Chávez - The Chicana/o Studies Program and the Recuerda a César Chávez Committee work together each year to organize a community-wide event commemorating the life and work of the late farmworker leader. Our Director also serves on the City of Albuquerque Public Art Program committee that is designing a memorial to Chávez, planned for the intersection of Broadway and Avenida César Chávez.
