Central to the mission of the University of New Mexico is UNM's positive interaction with the citizens of the State of New Mexico. In addition to our educational and research offerings, as part of our public responsibility we deliver many services such as continuing education, health care, social services, volunteer work through service learning programs, and access to resources such as museums, libraries, and cultural events.

Most of the activities in this guide started with the initiative and personal commitments of faculty, staff, and students working together and with others, to provide communities the time and expertise needed to better the lives of their citizens. For example, many main-campus departments are committed to the ongoing improvement of K-12 education in our state. From teacher preparation to direct student activities to family development, their participation in this important area shows how our institution is committed to the education of all segments of New Mexico's population.

The purpose of our Community Resource Guide is to give you a representative sampling of UNM Main Campus activities conducted throughout the state. To help you navigate the document, we have placed a symbol next to each entry that indicates what type of category a program or activity represents.

We hope that you find this guide useful. Although we have tried to be as complete as possible, programs and activities are implemented and completed on an ongoing basis. In order to address this dynamic process, we will update the information regularly through this website. (The extensive outreach programs of the academic and clinical units of the Health Sciences Center are described in separate documents and, therefore, are not included here. They can also be accessed through their website at via this link.
