As UNM continues to make progress on implementing the Strategic Framework introduced by President Schmidly in April of 2008, this year’s theme - “Communicate” - is central and essential to everything we are doing. From the President’s Monday Morning Messages, to Town Hall gatherings, to ongoing meetings with faculty, staff, and students, concerted efforts are being made to ensure that all members of the UNM community have timely and accurate information about the university.
The economic downturn that our country began to seriously experience last fall does not yet show signs of significant improvement. During this difficult time, will continue to need the best thinking of everyone to address the challenges we face related to our finances and making certain that our core missions of teaching, research, community service, and patient care are carried forth. We know that the more openly and effectively we communicate with each other, the more robust our solutions become. And, we must not forget that even during tough economic times, opportunities still appear. Working together, we can continue to build for the future, even as we meet the challenges of today.
As we look to the future, we will continue to explore new processes and pathways that will not only make certain that information is shared, but also tap into the creativity, knowledge, experience, and ideas of the members of our UNM family.
“Adelante” is still the operative word as we continue to move forward with initiatives to better serve our students and our communities, to promote our research, and to care for our patients. Now, more than ever, communication is key, everyone’s ideas need to be heard, and achieving success will be a team effort!
