Every decision we make must take into account our institutional priorities -- student success, excellence in research, healthy communities, and economic and community development. To the extent possible, we will prioritize our resources to reflect our commitment to moving forward in these areas. We will be aggressive but positive. We will work together as a unified UNM.

We submit these guiding principles as the ones we will follow in these uncertain budget times for the FY 2009 holdback and next year's budget reductions in order to ensure that the University continues to:

  1. Support core functions
  2. Maintain the capacity to serve our students; students are our top priority
  3. Link decisions to the University’s Strategic Framework
  4. Have an open process throughout
  5. Find opportunities to come out of this better positioned for the future
  6. Work to protect faculty and staff
  7. Identify and implement additional efficiencies where possible
