Estefany Giehm
MA in English (TESOL), San Francisco State University
BA in Anthropology, University of Arizona
After completing her BA in May of 2005, Estefany joined the Americorps Program. During her first year as a corps-member, she traveled the Southeastern region of the United States working on various disaster-relief projects associated with Hurricane Katrina. During her second year, she chose to work for a project located in San Francisco, California. It was her work as the assistant coordinator of Project SHINE (Students Helping in the Naturalization of Elders) that interested her in pursuing an MA in TESOL. As a graduate student, she continued to coordinate Project SHINE as well as volunteer, tutor, and assist in many different ESL courses at City College of San Francisco and SFSU. After graduating, Estefany moved to San Diego where she worked for three different community colleges where she tutored, and taught reading, grammar, and composition to ESL students. She also taught speaking, listening, and TOEFL preparation at Southern States University during her winter and summer breaks. Estefany is excited about being in a new city, and working for CELAC. In her free time, she enjoys indoor rock climbing, hiking, cooking, reading, and learning new languages.
