The University of New Mexico is pleased to announce the Inauguration of the University’s 20th President, Dr. David J. Schmidly on October 7, 2007.  Appropriate to the mission and vision of the University, the theme for the inaugural week is “Connect”.

The University of New Mexico is interwoven into the culture, community and aspirations of the state.  UNM continues to generate new connections beyond its borders, providing an environment grounded in creativity, discovery, opportunity and leadership.

This single word – Connect – encompasses much of what the University of New Mexico is all about.  Whether it’s the academic programs, vital research and economic development programs, the advancements being made at the Health Sciences Center, or any one of the hundreds of programs and services offered, the University of New Mexico connects each of these essential pieces as the premier institution of higher learning in New Mexico.  The theme also accurately illustrates President Schmidly’s commitment to build and enhance connections between the University and outside communities.
