EOD
offers customer service training for student employees
Managers
can enhance the customer service skills of their student employees
through training offered by the Department of Human Resources.
Employee
and Organizational Development is extending the availability
of its Customer Service: Basic Skills workshop to student employees.
Since
the UNM Strategic Plan says we must make customer service training
available to all who interface with the public, we really need
to include student employees, says Autumn Bell, Training
and Development Consultant with EOD. There are well over
a thousand students employed on campus. In many departments,
they are on the front-line of service.
The training
covers a number of topics, including communication, responding
to complaints and cross-cultural issues that impact customer
interactions. Training can be held at the departments
location or at the Employee and Organizational Development classroom
at 801 University SE. Student employees may also register for
one of EODs regularly scheduled Customer Service: Basic
Skills workshops online at www.unm.edu/~hrinfo.
Yet
another option is to have us conduct train-the-trainer
sessions with the department staff, adds Bell. We
recently prepared about 20 staff of the UNM General Library
to train their student employees on customer service. We partnered
with the library to develop the materials and training on how
to conduct the workshops. Now the library staff is empowered
to provide that training on an on-going basis. This option
may be particularly attractive to large departments and those
that bring in new student employees at different times throughout
the year.
