Taxpayers
get return from UNM-LA
A new study
for fiscal year 2000-01 concludes that Los Alamos taxpayers
get at least $5.14 in economic benefits for every dollar they
pay in taxes for UNM-Los Alamos.
These taxes
include those put aside for UNM-LA under the property tax mil
levy dedicated to the college as well as other taxes paid by
Los Alamos County residents.
Moreover,
that ratio increases dramatically when regional economic benefits
are considered. When Los Alamos County and the tri-county region
are taken into consideration, the ratios ranges from $13.99
to $23.58 for each dollar paid in taxes toward UNM-LA.
This
study concludes that UNM-LA has a substantial, positive economic
impact on Los Alamos County and the tri-county region,
stated the executive summary of the Economic Impact Study, prepared
by Jim Greenwood of the Greenwood Consulting Group.
