Pianist
renowned for Spanish music at Keller Hall Feb. 2
The
Friends of Music will present American pianist Douglas Riva,
world renowned for his knowledge of Spanish music, in a solo
performance at Keller Hall on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m.
An Albuquerque
native, Riva recently returned to live part-time in his home
state. Considered one of the world's best exponents of the music
of Spaniard Enrique Granados, along with pianist Alicia de Larrocha,
Riva compiled and recorded an 18 volume critical edition of
the Complete Works for Piano of Enrique Granados.
Riva agreed
to perform this benefit concert for the Friends of Music, in
part, because of his own commitment to music education.
Friends
of Music, Inc. was founded 35 years ago to support music scholarships
at UNM. It is a volunteer, non-profit organization that raises
funds through donations and benefit concerts.
Tickets
are $20 general admission, $15 students, and are available at
the UNM Bookstore box office, tickets.com (851-5050 or 1-800-905-3315)
or at the door.
