'Espiritu
Flamenco' is theme for faculty/student dance concert
The Department
of Theatre and Dance will present 'Espiritu Flamenco' for its
annual faculty/student spring dance concert.
The concert features UNM's world-famous flamenco program with
performances by Alma Flamenca, the UNM student flamenco ensemble;
as well as Yjastros, the only flamenco repertory company in
North America.
Both companies
are under the direction of Festival Flamenco Internacional founder
Eva Enciñias Sandovals children. Alma Flamenca
is under the direction of Marisol Enciñias, adjunct faculty
in the UNM Dance Program. Yjastros is under the direction of
Joaquin Enciñias, who is also adjunct faculty. Several
of the company members of Yjastros teach flamenco at UNM as
well.
Performances
will include choreographies by Alejandro Granados and Juana
Amaya, who are among the most respected flamenco performers
in the world.
The concert
will be held at Rodey Theatre Feb. 21-22 at 7:30 p.m.; Feb.
23 at 2 p.m.; and Feb. 27-March 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets
are $10 general, $8 faculty/staff/seniors, $6 students/children.
