Koon
Meng Chua
Koon Meng
Chua, 47, civil engineering professor, died Feb. 14.
Chua joined
UNM in 1988 as an assistant professor. Chua was a registered
professional engineer in Texas and a Fellow of the American
Society of Engineers.
He had
engineering design experience with the Texas Transportation
Institute and Brown and Root Far East Engineers. This practical
experience helped him bring the reality of the profession into
the classroom.
Chuas
areas of expertise included geotechnical engineering and pavement
engineering. He had numerous areas of interest and had published
on highway pavements, (simulated) Martian and Lunar soils, foundations
for structures, and applications of finite-element analyses.
This semester,
Chua was serving on the Faculty Senate as engineering representative.
Chua earned
his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Texas A&M University
in 1986.
He received
his bachelors degree in civil engineering from the University
of Singapore in 1980 and masters in the field from A&M
in 1983.
Mari
A. Ulibarri
UNM employee
Mari A. Ulibarri, 55, died Feb. 13 at Presbyterian Hospital
in Albuquerque.
At UNM
for more than 17 years, most recently she served as technical
publications coordinator for the Office of the University Secretary.
Prior to joining the office eight years ago, she worked for
the deans office in Arts and Sciences.
Ulibarri
is survived by husband Andres A. Ulibarri, a Physical Plant
employee, and three sons.
A memorial
will be held Tuesday, March 4 at 12:30 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial
Chapel.
