filmmaker to talk
Underground
filmmaker George Kuchar will give a video screening and lecture
on Saturday, April 5, from 7-9 p.m. in Northrop Hall, rm. 122.
Part of
the Media Arts Department International Cinema Lecture Series,
the screening and discussion are free and open to the public.
Kuchar,
an instructor at the San Francisco Art Institute, began making
low budget films in the 1950’s with his twin brother Mike. As
their work expanded, they each became respected underground
filmmakers, receiving citations from film artists like Andy
Warhol, John Waters, David Lynch and Tim Burton.
George
Kuchar recently won the Maya Deren Award from the American Film
Institute, as well as a Los Angeles Film Critics Award. Retrospectives
of his film and video work can be found in museums and institutions
from Queens, N.Y. to San Francisco, Calif.
