Lamadrid
named Chicana/o Studies interim director
Literary
folklorist and UNM Professor of Spanish Enrique Lamadrid has
been named interim director of UNMs Chicana/o Studies
Program after being recommended by a consensus of faculty, staff,
students and community members last spring.
He succeeds
Dr. Eduardo Hernandez Chavez, who recently retired. At UNM since
1985, Lamadrid is a scholar and cultural activist known for
his research on mestizo culture, his international field programs,
and his community and student advocacy.
Nagel
selected Graduate Studies interim associate dean
Elizabeth
Liza Nagel, Ph.D, has been named interim associate
dean for Graduate Studies, said UNM Dean of Graduate Studies
Teresita Aguilar.
Her
expertise in grant-writing, project development and evaluation,
workplace management, and graduate student mentorship will add
a valuable dimension to the operations and initiatives in Graduate
Studies at UNM, Aguilar said.
Peralta
to direct engineering diversity programs
Steven
Peralta has been named director of Diversity Programs in the
UNM School of Engineering.
As director,
Peralta will oversee the programs efforts to recruit and
increase the retention and graduation rates of underrepresented
and financially challenged students pursuing careers in engineering,
computer science, mathematics and the physical sciences.
Peralta
comes to UNM from Santa Fe Community College where he directed
the computer and information technologies department.
